Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps (why not just call it Money Never Sleeps? – I hate numbered sequels) is a film we’ve been following for a while here at The Film Nest. Frank Langella recently came on board. We covered the casting of Javier Bardem as the films villain, only to have him drop out over scheduling conflicts. His role has not yet been recast, while there have been rumors that Josh Brolin will be filling his No Country for Old Men costars shoes, as yet nothing has been confirmed.
It seems that Bardem’s vacated role is still up in the air, but there are reports that Susan Sarandon has possibly landed a role in the Oliver Stone film. From Variety:
Susan Sarandon is negotiating to join the Oliver Stone-directed “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps Sarandon will play the mother of a young Wall Street trader (Shia LaBeouf) who falls under the seductive influence of Gordon Gekko. Michael Douglas and Frank Langella also star. Production begins next month in New York.
When I first stumbled across this article I figured Sarandon would be playing Gekko’s girlfriend or his wife. I was surprised to see that she will be playing Shia’s mother. I think she is a little too old to be Shia LaBeouf’s Mom. Then again, they need an actress old enough to look like they would be involved with Michael Douglas. I think Susan Sarandon is a great actress, and she definitely still has “it”. What do you have to say about Sarandon’s casting in Wall Street 2?
